While discussing the potential of a room with a client last week, I was reminded of a video I saw on Youtube a while ago. Hong Kong architect Gary Chang, transformed the apartment that once housed his parents and 3 sisters, himself and a tenant in 330 square feet!
He created 24 rooms out of this incredibly small space. A marvel of ingenuity for us here in North America, but common to Hong Kong residents where space is at a premium.
Although, we aren’t lacking in space as much as in high density cities around the world, here in Toronto, if you want to live in the downtown core, where a condo is our only option, space becomes an issue if not designed properly. Developers are now, in this little boom period we just had and are still going through, designing with efficiencies in mind. But I still think they could better.
As I embark on an exciting exploration of space with inspiration of the Jetsons, and Whoville in mind, I leave you with Gary Chang’s “Domestic Transformer” for inspiration.
Cheers!

Fantastic!!
I have seen this before but never get tired of seeing it….so cool!
