Art Gallery – OPEN STUDIO

Open Studio Gallery exhibiting Lisa Turner’s Shelf Life.

As I’ve already mentioned, it’s my intention to discover and share the most unique finds in Toronto.  And this is one of the most unique art studio/galleries that I’ve come across recently.  Well actually, I’ve been aware of this studio for a while, but didn’t really explore it until I saw them at the Interior Design Show.  What peaked my interest was that it is a screenprinting studio.  That’s because not long ago, I had a fashion line where I designed and manufactured women’s wear.  I became bored with the fabric choices so I started screen-printed my own fabric.  I love to screen print! (One day soon I’ll do a show and tell.)

Astrid Ho (Print Sales Manager/Archivist), curates the Print Sales Gallery.

And who works alongside a wonderful team (Heather Webb, Sara Kelly, Jill Graham and Daryl Vocat) to make this studio function seamlessly.

But, more importantly, is that this fantastic facility OPEN STUDIO, since 1970, has been a non-profit, charitable organization that is focused on the production, promotion and preservation of contemporary, original fine art prints.  It is an artist-run facility in a 7400 square foot studio, where Canadian artists have the opportunity after a period of time, to become members.  International artists are also able to participate in the multi-faceted services and programs.

OPEN STUDIO has equipment for Intaglio and Relief Printing, Screenprinting, Lithography, and Mono Printing.

Presently representing over 150 artists, what is most wonderful about Open Studio is that it also has 3 galleries where artists’ work can be sold.

Nadine Bariteau working on a piece with guest artist Bill Burns.

Sandi Ralph, member artist for over 10 years, is deep in concentration on a work.

And from an Interior Design point of view, screenprinted original works of art are generally more affordable than other forms.  So there’s really no excuse not to invest in original art.

Located at 401 Richmond St. W.  Suite 104.  Check out their site for more details and upcoming exhibits and events. www.openstudio.on.ca
